His Excellency Gilles Noghès

H.E. Gilles Noghès presented his credentials as the first Ambassador of the Prince of Monaco to the United States of America to President George W. Bush, on December 8, 2006.

Prior to this appointment, he was the Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations in New York, from July 2004 until September 2009. He was accredited from 2003 to 2004 as Ambassador of the Principality of Monaco in Bern, Switzerland and to the Principality of Liechtenstein, as well as Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations Office in Geneva.

For 10 years (1993-2003), H.E. Gilles Noghès served in Paris, as Minister-Counselor at the Embassy of Monaco to France. He was also Deputy Permanent Delegate to UNESCO. While in Paris, Gilles Noghès represented his Country to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the intergovernmental body controlling the organization of world fairs. After chairing its Executive Committee, he was elected as President of the BIE in 1999 and was reelected in 2001.
During his presidency, the city of Shanghai was chosen as the site for Expo 2010.

Gilles Noghès joined the administration of the Principality of Monaco in 1979 and was Monaco’s Director of Tourism and Conventions from 1985 to 1993. He was First Secretary at the Embassy of Monaco in Bonn, Germany from 1983 to 1985.

Ambassador Noghès is also accredited to Canada and Represents Monaco at the Organization of American States with a Permanent Observer Status.

Gilles Noghès holds a Mechanical Engineering Degree from the Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich (Switzerland) and an M.B.A. from INSEAD (Fontainebleau, France).

He was born in Monaco on March 26, 1947. He is married to Ellen, née Van Faasen, and has one son.

Gilles Noghès speaks French, English, German and Italian.

He is an Officer of the Order of Saint-Charles (Monaco), has received the Grand Cross of Merit (Germany) and the Golden Magnolia Medal from Shanghai (P.R. of China).
